3. I read a short story today that included an extremely obscure movie reference.  I got the reference, and immediately called my mother.  Bam.  (For those with a curious mind, it was a quote from The Quiet Man, "When I drink whiskey I drink whiskey, and when I drink water I drink water.")

4. A bit of spring for you on this December day-- in the form of a vintage Laura Ashley wedding gown.  Sigh.  Reminds of Anne of Green Gables.  And Princess Diana's wedding.  And the turn of the century. And tea parties.  Etc.

6. My Parents Were Awesome.  Hilarious. I love old pictures.  My only complaint is, where's the blog for pictures of parents who are still awesome?

7. I finished reading my book of short stories last night-- I Knew You'd Be Lovely.  Lovely is, funny enough, the perfect word to describe it.  I tried to stretch out reading it as long as I possible could.  Perfect for Winter.

8.  The other day, I was talking to my friend Maddie, and she asked me "If you were a Christmas Carol, which would you be?"  I said O Holy Night.  It's my favorite.  I just wish it weren't sung so often, so that it wouldn't be as trite as it is.  But, then again, I wouldn't want anyone to miss out on hearing it...

10. There is this poem by Donald Justice, and it's called, "A Poem to be Read at 3 AM".  I've only ever let myself read it at 3:00 in the morning, so I've only actually read it twice.  But, in the still quiet late at night-- it's worth it.

L-House Update: 29

An L-House Update...

1. My life was made a happier place this week.  Frasier is now on Netflix.

2. Most amazing Halloween costume ever?  Please someone try this.

3. Pretty.  An excellent dinner party accessory and whatnot.

5. Good basic dress.   It looks so comfortable!

8. Check this out!  My super fabulous friend, Aubrey, is a Senior in NYU's film program (crazy cool, I know) and this is to help out her final film project.  So, go forth and give it a gander!

9. I wish I could see this.  I love Paul Gross so much, because of this fantastic show, an amazing actor.  And don't the costumes/set look like they'll be gorgeous??

10. This time next week I'll have less hair, less anxiety, and shall be filled to the brim with Southern-love, Katiedid's chicken-pot-pie (be jealous), and cheese shop sandwiches.  Oh golly I can't wait to go home.  Where the trees have only just started to turn and the boys hold the door open for you.  It has been far far far too long.

2. The best depictions of museums ever:  The Catcher in the Rye or The Mixed up Files of Mrs. Basil E. Frankweiler.  They just make me want to sit in a planetarium and eat goldfish and peanutbutter sandwiches until I die.

1. 27s.  And, therefore the fact that this is the twenty-seventh L-House Update.

2. This is fun.  I was something to do with bohemian/chic, I think?

9. APPLEFEST!  Perhaps the most fabulous of things that Ithaca has to offer.  (There were fewer people than usual today in my writing class, and one kid said, "Oh I wonder if it's because of that holiday...?"  And I say, "applefest?!!"  No.  Rosh Hashanah.  Yeah...)

10.  And, of course, the fantastic people who are coming up here this weekend for said fabulous-ness!  So looking forward to a multitude of conversations over hot cider and apple fritters.  (And apple pie and apple sauce and cider donuts and roast corn and caramel apples and....)

An L-House Update...

 9.  I spoke to my sister this morning and we were in the same time zone.  Or, at least, twelve or so hours closer than we used to be...

10. I watched The Motorcycle Diaries yesterday.  I love it when a true story is told well.

1. Aren't these pictures beautiful?  So raw and epic.

8. A bit of news, my parents have once again proved that they are simply the amazing-est!!  As I write this, they are en route to visit this lovely lady in Beijing!!  Too cool.  Too crazy! I so respect and admire their taste for adventure.

An L-House Update...

1. Gregory Peck.  There are no words.

2.  I mean... this is what I would want my birthday party to look like...

3. When you're done with your day.  Going back home.  You're a bit tired.  You get into your car, and the thing is-- you've forgotten how loud you'd turned up the volume.  But, it's okay.  In fact, it's quite fabulous.  Because that random radio station you found is in the middle of playing that superbly fantastic epic song you love so much.

4. An update on my sister in China and The Body Project!  The Ikea in Beijing cracks me up/reminds me of that part in 500 Days of Summer.

5. Jersey Cows.  Particularly one named Elsa or Daisy or something very quintessentially cow-name-y.

6.  Aren't these cool?  Talk about detail!

7. I-would-like-a-pair-of-these-please-now-k-thanks.  Lovely on a stroll in the summer evening...

8. Having an impromptu coffee date turned sandwiches turned writing discussion turned intense music search with a friend...

9. The ultimate fruit salad.  Strawberries, blackberries, raspberries, watermelon, pineapple, banana, more strawberries.  (There are never enough.) Freshly chopped mint.  A little bit of honey and a smidgen of lime juice.  The best part?  You have to eat it all in pretty much one sitting so that it doesn't get weird next-day-fruit-salad-ish.  But, I think we're okay with that...

1. Check out this pretty and inexpensive look book by Ruche.

2. The smell of a bookstore.

3. Fresh blueberry pie.  (With grated lemon zest on the bottom!!) I used to hate fruit pies.  The world has changed.  I love fruit pies.

4. First editions.  Once, my friend Aubrey found a first edition of a James Bond book at a little book sale in Cambridge.  Live and Let Die.  Oh that one could simultaneously be James Bond and found in a first edition.  Simply the suavest.

1. This super cool tumblr.  (I think it's safe to say that I will be roasting broccoli tonight, and craving carrot cake...until the end of time, or at least until I get home and can have some of the awesome chocolate chip cookies Jaime made last night...)
