L-House Update: 24

An L-House Update...

1. Sullivan Ballou's letter to his wife, Sarah...
"But, O Sarah! If the dead can come back to this earth and flit unseen around those they loved, I shall always be near you; in the brightest day and in the darkest night—amidst your happiest scenes and gloomiest hours—always, always; and if there be a soft breeze upon your cheek, it shall be my breath; or the cool air fans your throbbing temple, it shall be my spirit passing by."
2. Summertime, 1943 by Edward Hopper

3. Laughing too much with people you haven't known all too long or all too well.

4. Another note on Edward Hopper... (Pardon the pun.)  Isn't this a cool idea?

5. Iced tea out of a clear-blue pitcher.

6. Today I bought my first journal since the end of the school year.  I think it's the longest I've ever gone without one.  It was like sighing a long sigh.

7. Receiving wonderful surprise packages in the mail!
(Mine included copies of this, this, and this...)

8. Heckling Masterpiece Classics with a friend.  (Or, really any TV show will do.  But, this is the one Jaime and I have been watching and heckling the hell out of.
For example: "Maaaaaaargareeeettt!  What are you doing?!  Mr. Thornton is so obviously in love with you!  Stop being such a TWIT."
 9.  I spoke to my sister this morning and we were in the same time zone.  Or, at least, twelve or so hours closer than we used to be...

10. I watched The Motorcycle Diaries yesterday.  I love it when a true story is told well.

My dad and Haiku

I was bored today, so my dad suggested that I write three haiku.  Haikus?  (Who knows.)  Each one based upon a member of our family.  I sent them to him, and now he has to guess who the family members are.  For those interested in playing:

Three Haiku(s) in Ten Minutes

A cup of coffee
Peanut butter mayonnaise
A glass of sherry

Warm metal humming
Throat folds vibrating, strings buzz
Do a silly dance

Water color blue
Garden green a cup of tea
Butter on both sides

L-House Update: 23

An L-House Update...

 1. A little black dress.

2. I love this photo shoot.

3. Dame Maggie Smith and Sir Laurence Olivier in Othello

4. All I want is to be A Well Traveled Woman.

5. Newbery Medal winners.

6.  The slight sounds of a tuning orchestra.  It's as if the world is holding its breath.

7. This just kills me.

8. Jack Purcell.  Oh goodness I want a pair.

9. The ballerina bun.  (This will forever and always make me think of my friend Emily coming to elementary school everyday with her hair done in a bun for ballet class.)

10.  Going to the midnight Harry Potter premiere with a good friend.
"Of course it is happening inside your head, Harry, but why on earth should that mean it is  not real?"
Golly.  I can't believe it's over.

Oh, Canada

Welcome to...
The Stone Family Reunion Extravaganza/ Our Trip to the Stratford Shakespeare Festival/ Jaime's First Out-of-Country Expedition!

After we both had rather horrid days at work (which we took as a cue that we both required a change of scenery) Jaime and I began our journey to Canada.  We rolled the windows down, blasted some Joni Mitchell, and I began the usual round of hypothetical questions.  In the midst of an intensely scenic route around the lake/mad amounts of farmland, we spotted an extremely quaint farm stand.  Jaime immediately reversed the car, and we bought a quart of golden cherries.  Naturally.

Believe it or not, Jaime and I made it through the border.  (Although our car was stopped and we were questioned.  And, for some reason we answered everything in unison... so that was interesting.)  With some assistance, although none from a GPS (go us!) we made it to our destination.  The next day, we went to the Stratford Shakespeare Festival.  We walked around Stratford, had dinner, and saw productions of Twelfth Night and Camelot.  Both were incredible.

The next day was the family reunion!  People came in from far and wide, and many an engaging conversation ensued.  (Not to mention a rather intense game of Harry Potter Scene It...)

Pretty dress...

I'm obsessed with this gown.  It's by Vera Wang, as featured in Vogue, April 2006.

In other news, I wrote the first line of my novel today.  So, that's exciting.  Hope all is well in the great wide world.

Happy fourth!

Please go have yourself some hot dogs, hamburgers, popsicles, and a slice of watermelon.  (All whilst listening to Bruce Springsteen.  Of course.  Or a baseball game...)

L-House Update: 22

An L-House Update...

1. I want one of these so badly.  Aren't they cool??

2. This blog makes me chuckle.  And, I quite agree.  Every man should know how to tie a tie...

4.  Summer.  Red mustang convertible.

5. Isn't this site useful?  I found it while I was trying to find the difference between a psychopath and a sociopath.
(Which I needed to know because of Sherlock.  Of course.)

6. My friend Mariah found this.  Famous writers in their swimsuits!  Oh Truman Capote in all his glory.

7. For all you opera singers out there:
"He could not have entered the Academy at a more significant moment than just as she was singing: 'He loves me-- he loves me not-- he loves me!' and sprinkling the falling daisy petals with notes as clear as dew.  She sang of course, 'M'ama!' and not 'he loves me,' since an unalterable and unquestionable law of the musical world required that the German text of French operas sung by Swedish artists should be translated into Italian."
-Edith Wharton, The Age of Innocence

8.  She calls this list "husband material

9.  A friend's favorite poem...

10. As Liz Lemon would say, "I want to go to there."
