Like Crazy

So what if all I've done today is eat and watch movie trailers? So what if I'm a total sap and almost cried during this one? (Which, by the way, for all you Ithacans, is playing at Cinemapolis next week! Who will go with me?? I promise I won't cry.  Maybe.) Regardless, this looks pretty.  Like a Blue Valentine for a younger generation. And, who doesn't like to wallow in an aesthetically pleasing depression for a couple of hours?

Fall is upon us!  I am a very seasonal person.  Meaning, I strongly associate certain movies, books, and music with certain times of the year.  The following is a list of some of my absolutely favorite fall things.  So, grab a sweater and a mug of hot cider and take a look...

Sherlock.

Last week I finished a miniseries by the BBC: Sherlock.  It's an absolutely fantastic portrayal of Sherlock Holmes, but in this case, Sherlock is glued to his cell phone, and Watson has just returned from a tour in Afghanistan....

The modern adaptation just goes to show how brilliant the stories really are, as they have the same effect even when told across time.  The characterizations, acting, lighting, and cinematography are all wonderful.  (The acting particularly-- I freaked out when I realized whom else Sherlock has played!  Also, he and Watson are both cast in The Hobbit!)

The best part?  It's all on Netflix instant play.  However, there are only three episodes per seasons, it is, after all, a miniseries...

Never could two characters be any more different:

Born Into Brothels

"Silhouette" by Kochi

 

If you have never seen Born Into Brothels, I highly recommend it.  After who knows how many years of people telling me to watch it, I finally did last night.  It's both beautiful and heartbreaking.  It's the story of a woman who lives in a brothel of Calcutta's red light district.  She teaches the brothel's children about photography.  Each kid is given a camera and through that, we are allowed a glimpse of their world.

Summer flicks

A little note:  I've decided that for the summer months, I will disperse with posting a weekly Featured Wish List.  But, I'm looking forward to sharing another project sometime soon. :)

That aside, aren't summer movies the best thing ever?  Last night, my friend Taylor and I watched Fried Green Tomatoes.  It made me miss the South.  But, it made me very glad that summer movie season has finally arrived (great for a rainy afternoon)!  Here are a few more of my personal favorites...

Also known as one of the most awesome movies of all time.  Seriously.  Who didn't have a crush on Benny?  And, any movie taking place in the sixties is just... awesome.

Mamma Mia!

Next to Only You, (RDJ!!) this movie is my ultimate guilty pleasure.  It's just SO aesthetically pleasing!  If ABBA and Anthropologie had a baby...

 

The Parent Trap

I know this movie like the back of my hand.  When I was a nanny, we watched it almost every day.  Also, it has one of the best opening sequences ever.

Classic summer.

A League of Their Own

"There's no crying in basebaaaaalll!"  And it's another one of those simply aesthetically pleasing ones.

Jurassic Park

This movie is just so awesome.  Adventure blockbuster at its height, and it still makes me jump!

To Kill a Mockingbird

Ummm... Robert DuVall's first movie.  Atticus Finch.  I want to marry Gregory Peck.  Atticus Finch is the best.  Scout and Jem are such cool character names.  Atticus Finch.  Good soundtrack. Atticus Finch. Atticus Finch.

Dennis the Menace

Again with the classic all-American summer.  It just makes you miss being a kid.



Free Willy 

Fantastic film.  My obsession with it as a kid caused me to name my albino goldfish(es?) Willy.  Also, the harmonica is just fabulous.

Now and Then 

Rosie O'Donnell.  Devon Sawa. (Jaime's first love.)  Coke out of a bottle.  Red rover.  A mystery.
